Ahead-of-Time x86 Binary Translation & DXVK Vulkan Pipeline
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes runs natively on Android through LMS_Android, an active-alpha project maintained by ttom795. Rather than relying on Windows-on-ARM emulation layers like Winlator or Box64, which incur CPU translation overhead, LMS_Android utilizes the x86-to-ARM64 ahead-of-time binary translation pipeline originally developed for Skyrim_Android. The toolchain translates Traveller’s Tales’ 32-bit x86 Windows executable directly into native 64-bit ARM (aarch64) machine instructions.
Graphics commands are processed through a patched build of dxvk-native, routing Direct3D 9 calls straight to Vulkan 1.1 on bare silicon. Shaders compile on-device during gameplay, enabling players to explore the open-world LEGO Manhattan hub, tour the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, and control over 150 Marvel characters natively without x86 runtime translation. Window management, audio streams, and user inputs are handled by SDL2.
Extracting & Transferring Steam PC Game Assets
Because LMS_Android includes no proprietary game files, players must provide assets from their own legal PC installation:
- Install LEGO Marvel Super Heroes on your PC from Steam (the release targeted by the maintainer).
- Download the
LegoMarvel-0.3.1.apkpackage (or latest release) from GitHub Releases. - Connect your Android device via USB or local network file transfer.
- Copy the PC installation files specified in the repository README into the game folder on your device.
- Launch the app to let the runtime load your local game archives.
Vulkan 1.1 Performance, Shader Compilation & SoC Tiers
The port runs on 64-bit ARM Android 9.0+ devices with Vulkan 1.1 support:
- Hardware Scaling: Tested on Snapdragon silicon, a Snapdragon 665 or newer is recommended for steady play. Minor frame hitching may occur during initial on-device shader compilation as fresh visual effects appear.
- Flagship Devices: Higher-tier chips like the Snapdragon 865, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 maintain locked 60 FPS across dense city environments and chaotic combat.
- Driver Compatibility: Standard vendor Adreno and Mali Vulkan drivers function without requiring Turnip drivers (
turnipRecommended: false), ensuring smooth plug-and-play setup.
Dual Controller Layout Profiles & Touchscreen Ergonomics
The port offers versatile input configurations for phones and dedicated handhelds:
- Physical Gamepads: Includes native Bluetooth and USB-C controller support with selectable Xbox (
A/B/X/Y) and Nintendo Switch (B/A/Y/X) button layout profiles to prevent button-swapping confusion. - On-Screen Touch Overlay: An optional transparent touch overlay provides responsive on-screen thumbsticks, character toggles, and action buttons for touchscreen gaming.
- Handheld Support: Handheld consoles like the AYN Odin 2 and Retroid Pocket series offer instant control mapping for flight and vehicle challenges.
