Recompiling Modified id Tech 3 Binaries via CallofRecomp
Infinity Ward launched the historical World War II franchise in 2003 with the original Call of Duty, utilizing a heavily modified iteration of id Software’s id Tech 3 (Quake III Arena) engine. Because Activision never released source code for the single-player executable (CoDSP.exe) or its three core libraries (gamex86.dll, cgamex86.dll, and uix86.dll), bringing the game to Android required static binary recompilation. Maintainer Dr3amyBerry created CallofRecomp (release v0.2.4), translating the x86 Windows binaries ahead-of-time into native 64-bit ARM (aarch64) machine instructions. The port replaces legacy desktop DirectX and Win32 calls with an OpenGL ES 2.0 rendering pipeline, preserving original PC menus while rendering a true widescreen horizontal field of view instead of stretching 4:3.
Preparing Version 1.5 Retail Assets and .codpack Archives
To run CallofRecomp, you must supply your own legal installation of Call of Duty for PC patched strictly to version 1.5. The launcher validates cryptographic checksums against CoDSP.exe, gamex86.dll, cgamex86.dll, uix86.dll, and all .pk3 archives inside main/ (United Offensive and Call of Duty 2 files are not supported). Players can deploy assets using two methods:
- Browser-Based Packaging (.codpack): Visit the official client-side web packager at
https://dr3amyberry.github.io/callofrecomp/on your PC and select your Call of Duty 1.5 directory. The browser bundles your installation locally into a single.codpackarchive without uploading files. Transfer the file to your mobile device, launch CallofRecomp, and tap Importar paquete .codpack. - Direct Directory Selection: Copy your complete PC installation folder directly to your phone’s internal storage, open the application, and tap Elegir carpeta del juego.
OpenGL ES 2.0 Rendering Profiles and Campaign Stability
CallofRecomp includes an integrated Spanish-language launcher menu designed to optimize thermal efficiency across mobile hardware tiers. To prevent battery drain and throttling, frame pacing is capped at 60 FPS. The launcher provides three resolution profiles:
- Light: Renders at up to 960x540, maintaining a steady 60 FPS on entry-level ARM chipsets.
- Balanced: Renders at up to 1280x720, offering a crisp balance of visual clarity and battery efficiency for mid-range phones.
- High: Matches your Android display panel’s native resolution for maximum sharpness.
The author initially confirmed 60 FPS gameplay on a budget TECNO CK6n handset. While automated tests confirm that all 33 campaign maps load correctly starting from the Camp Toccoa training grounds, completing the entire campaign on Android remains under active alpha verification.
RetroTouch Interface and PC Menu Navigation
Because the original 2003 release was built strictly for desktop mouse and keyboard controls without native gamepad support (nativeGamepad: false), CallofRecomp implements a modular RetroTouch on-screen interface. The overlay populates your touchscreen with virtual analog sticks for movement and aiming alongside dedicated buttons for firing, weapon aiming (ADS), leaning around corners, and tossing grenades.
Because navigating the dense original Windows configuration menus can be awkward with action buttons visible, RetroTouch includes a quick-hide toggle. Tapping the toggle clears the overlay instantly, giving you an unobstructed view of the authentic PC cursor and setup screens before heading back into combat across Normandy, Stalingrad, and Berlin.
