Port type
Fangames on Android
Fangames are their own thing. Most of these aren't ports of a commercial game at all. They're games that fans built themselves, often as a love letter to a series they grew up with.
Another Metroid 2 Remake is a good example. It reimagines a Game Boy classic with all new art and music. And Sonic Robo Blast 2 is a full 3D Sonic adventure that the community built on top of the Doom engine.
So the setup here is usually the easy kind. Most fangames are free downloads with everything included. But read each game page first, since a few need extra files to get going.

3D platformer fangame built from a heavily modified Doom engine running natively on Android with custom mobile HUD controls and mod support. Note: the SRB2-Mobile Android repository was archived in March 2025; the last Android build (v2.2.13, January 2024) still works but is no longer maintained and may not match the current desktop version for online play.
Android version of Toppler, the open-source remake of the 1987 tower-climbing classic Nebulus. Every tower comes with a recorded demo of a full climb. Published on Google Play by SeNSSoft.
